AT&T-DIRECTV Set to Cancel MTV & 22 Other Channels

AT&T-DIRECTV Set to Cancel MTV & 22 Other Channels

The DirecTV Now service is set to cancel up to 22 channels (in some cases it has already rolled out these changes) with looming contract disputes with Viacom. This impacts the Plus and Max plans for new customers. For now existing customers are able to keep their existing channels but there is no guarantee of that in the future.

DJ Pauly D is asking people to call AT&T / DirecTV and urge them to reconsider this change. Will his efforts pay off and will AT&T/DirecTV reconsider? Only time will tell.

The bottom line here is that this change can significantly impact revenues to shows on those channels and has an overall impact on the quality of programming available.

The following channels will not be included in new plans:

  • A&E
  • AMC
  • Animal Planet
  • BBC America
  • BET
  • CMT
  • Comedy Central
  • Discovery
  • HGTV
  • History
  • MTV
  • Nickelodeon
  • TLC
  • VH1

AT&T cites that it is too expensive to continue offering Viacom channels. They are not the first provider to drop Viacom. If you are interested in a streaming service that is still offering Viacom channels and no immediate plans to remove them, Sling may be your only option.
